jhonson 85 crarps out over half throttle

i have a johnson 85 horse when it idle in neutral<br />it runs great when u rev it up it revs good but if its in forward gear it will run great up to about half throtle then it starts craping out like it towing a anchor or something it just wont rev in gear can anybody help please i am also not sure of the year the model # vxl-12r ser#j2631445<br />also it may be a 75 horse im not to sure once again please help please and thank you four your time

Your VX 12 shows to be a 1966, 60 HP. Johnson,V-4. It sounds like igntion and or a carb problem. What is the gap on your spark plugs and what do they look like? Clean, oily, full of carbon??? Then there is the points, condenser's the coils, plug wires, etc........(.020 setting on the points, .030 on the plugs)<br /><br />...Bob in calif...
