I am trying to drop the lower end from my 1981 115hp Evinrude. I have removed the 4 bolts from the exhaust housing, the 5/8 bolt above the prop, the 1/2 bolt under the corrosion plate and removed the shift linkage screw from under the carb, it still wont drop. Please help

Can you get a screw driver in the crack to try and pry it down a little? Splines may be a little corroded.

I have the same problem. I'm told to try lossening the 4 bolts on the sides about a half inch (remove the other 2) and running the engine with muffs, shifting back and forth from forward to reverse. This could loosen up the stuck shaft and allow gravity to lower the unit. The loosened bolts keep it from falling off. I haven't had a chance to try this yet as it has been raining steadily here for a few days and I'm leaving town for a week on Friday. Let me know how you make out. My post is entitled "74 Johnson Javelin 85hp stuck lower unit" Good Luck!
