Lost Key

I lost the key to my boat. Are most boat keys the same? Where can I go to get a new Key? 1989 Johnson

Hi Dixe<br />If you look on the front of were the key goes in there should be 3 numbers take them number to any boat dealer and they can make a new one with out removing the ignation

There is only a 2 digit number. could that be the number I need?

it could only have 2 i have a Johnson 1983 and it has 3 numbers you can try the 2 but one could be missing

Or, buy a new switch if need be. It only takes a half hour to install if the control comes off easily.<br /><br /> Switch

DixieFire<br />you can take your boat to a dealer, and try keys tell you find ine that works. I have done this except I pulled the ignition switch out.<br />Richard

My 71 johnson has an alpha-numeric code for the keyswitch. I ordered keys from the dealer and have been waiting for a week and a half for them. I would advise getting a extra or mabye two. I would hope that you could get them in a quicker fashion than I could. GL
