1979 200 hp johnson runs good then bogs

motor runs good at idle at wot it runs good sometimes then bogs and will hit power band ocassionally i have cleaned carbs and blew them out with air changed plugs any sugestions apreciated

Howdy, DS.<br /><br />You are probably dropping a cylinder or two (or 3?).<br /><br />This could be a carb getting too little fuel. Low float setting? Could also be a failing fuel pump that can't keep up with consumption.<br /><br />More likely it is an intermittent loss of spark to part of your cyls. Pull the cover and try it without. The cover could be moving a wire where it is able to short to the block intermittently, or it could be allowing an electronic part to warm up to a partial heat failure.<br /><br />Let us know what you find. :)

thanks jb will check that in morning ive been thinking about it motor has 2 power packs probably shutting 1 side of motor down

when i had carbs off motor and plugs out turned motor over saw gas mist come out of intake is this because plugs were out not enough compression to close reed valves

Howdy, DS.<br /><br />Plugs in or out wont affect crankcase compression. The mist you saw was reed leakage. A little is normal.
