I've got a 2008 Tahoe Q8I w/ 5.0l MPI 260hp w/ alpha one and twice my starter has stayed engaged after I turn the igniton off. The first time I didn't have a battery cut off switch and it burnt the starter. The second time I was able to switch the starter off with the battery switch. I replaced the igniton switch and after another use it started doing the same crap again. Anybody else have same trouble?

Re: 2008 Tahoe Q8I starting problem

The most common cause of a starter drive staying engaged to the flywheel is too deep a gear engagement between the starter's pinion and the flywheel's ring gear.
Second most common is a defective starter relay that does not electrically drop out after the "start" switch is released.
Less common now a days is a defective bendix drive.
All of which can only be determined by removing the starter.
