Hello everyone this is my first post and I am new to this website so forgive me if I don't sound like I really don't know what the heck im talkin about because chances are I probably don't. Im hear to learn!

So anyways the boat im working on is a 16 ft 1984 beachcraft fiberglass boat, I have no idea of what model it is. This boat was givin to me for free but has a lost title and needs some work. So I have torn up my rotten floor and found my stringers to be looking good :] each stringer was intividually wrapped with fiberglass but my main concern is that my transom has to areas on each side of the engine the are coming apart I peeled off some of the bad wood and it looks like there are two layers of plywood and then beneth that is some fiberglassed wood is this normal? also is this repairable without taking the transom out of the boat/cap removal/engine removal/headache?

I have been browsing the forums and found that some people have removed these two layers and replaced them and epoxyed them on and glassed over? is this ok? im kinda on a budget right now...

Thanks for any imput!

I'm assuming that's an I/O. If so you can probably pull the engine and replace the transom without removing the cap. Cut out fiberglass skin on the inside of the boat and cut out or dig out the old wood. Clean up the inner side of the outer skin and use PL adhesive or thickened epoxy to glue in new transom wood. Glass over the new wood. If it's a mercruiser, transom should be about 2'' thick. Be sure to check your motor mount(s) for rot as well, most of the time if you have transom and deck damage, the mounts are shot too. Good luck on your project.:)

Not sure how it is in your state but you may to make sure you can get that title situation cleared up before you spend dime 1 on this boat. In some states an undocumented boat is pretty much a lawn ornament.

Ok i kinda figured the engine was gonna have to comeout. is it pretty dificult to build a transom? also im in the process of getting the title situation figured out but i was just trying to figure out the steps needed so when I get the title then I can start spending some ca$h and working on the transome and stuff. Also this project probably will take me about a year i would think just due to the lack of cash flow :/

Just keep reading threads on here to see how they go together. A current on by MountaineerMiner is excellent. What motor do you have on your boat?

If it's a Cobra it's not SO bad. If it's a Stringer.....ugh.

oh ok good to know.
so im wondering about my transom, Im starting to wonder if the two boards im going to replace are even part of the transom? It looks like they are seperate and also it looks like the transome might of had prevous work to it judging from the change in paintcolor?
