I can tell you my Father had a 14' Starcraft that looked very similar to that lund with a Merc 18 HP on it. It absolutely flew. We waterskied behind it when we were young (had to start off the dock). I can't imagine a 40 hp on it. Hopefully someone will chime in with more relavant data.

I've got 40 HP on a 14' Alumacraft. Gets along great. Pull tubes and ski off it, too. We use it for small-water fishing, because the Scarab ain't exactly built for that.

We pull up crabs/fish, tube the kids around, and I pull my wife on skis now and then, but she weighs 100 lbs soaking wet.

Still, we zip around in it.

I have had a 35HP on an old 14 ft tri-hull that was rated at 35HP and currently have a 40HP on a 15.5ft aluminum bass style boat (rated for 40HP). Top end is 28MPH and 31MPH respectively with just me (140 Lbs.) on the boat. Both are well behaved with that power level. I don't know if that helps, but it sounds quite reasonable to me.
