89 125HP Force - no top end speed

I have an 89 125HP Force on a 18' Stratos that I recently bought. Everything seems to run smooth but I don't have any power. It takes forever to get on top of the water and when I do, 20-25mph is top speed. This motor should push the boat more than that but I'm not sure where to start looking. Any suggestions??

Check spark and compression. When was the last fuel pump diaphram installed? How old are fuel lines? When was the last Carb cleaning and new needles and gaskets installed?

Excess weight. Look under decks for freeloading water.

Thanks for the places to start. Any advice on the best spark plugs to use?

I always use Champions in a Force motor. Not sure why, but I do. Haven't had any problems with them.
