What stores carry marine fire extinguishers?

I have two small Kiddie brand marine grade fire extinguishers that are low on pressure. They are C type (iirc), and white. Have not found them just shopping around, even at Walmart in the sporting goods/boat supplies section.

Any suggestions where to shop?

That's strange. The Wal Mart by me carries them.

Have you tried and marine supply stores such as West marine or purchase them off line (iBoats, eBay, etc)?

Walmart carries it by me also. But you can also try westmarine.com. I am sure they have them. And Marine Extingushers are Type B not C.

Ayuh,... A dry chemical extinguisher, is a dry chemical extinguisher,....
They're All marine... Osha, fire dept., Coast Gaurd, etc....
Atleast all I ever see...

I buy 'em at Sam's Club....

Thanks for all the replies! I went to two different Walmarts, and they only had the home extinguisher. Maybe they were just sold out of the Marine. After making the initial post, I ran off to Lowes for some hardware and found they have the marine extinguisher. Is bigger than the one its replacing. The old one was so small, I wonder how much fire fighting it could do!

Did you happen to stop by the boating section? If you saw a home extinguisher then you were probably in the wrong place.

I just replaced mine. I got them at a local mom and pop marine store. They are small so I have two onboard.

Wal-mart stores are all different, I am in California they have virtually nothing for boats here, I went to one in Oklahoma City last year and I thought I was in West Marine

Same here. Long Island, and my local Wal-Mart carries almost nothing for boats. I can't figure it out, either. I found a 2-pack of Kidde Mariner 110's with brackets on sale at West for $40. (half their regular wildly inflated price).

BTW, there are no marine stores, like Cabellas, West Marine, etc where I live. So the only choice is checking the local marinas at Lake Hopatcong (which is a complete rip-off), or shopping online.

Glad that the Lowes had them.

The way I was explained it the differance between the household and marine extinguisher is a marine is designed to take the constant pounding recieved in a boat. The boat rep that was giving the seminar stated that a household extinguisher can be used, but once a month take it and turn it upside down and hit the bottom several times with a rubber mallet. The fire fighting agent on a household unit will settle to the bottom from the pounding of the boat and become ineffective. That is the reason for pounding the unit to shake back up the agent. At my local Wal-Mart the marine extenguishers are sold in the sporting goods section.

No, it'll pack to the side

I was also advised in my Power Squadron course, to just pick it up and shake it occasionally, just to make sure the 'stuff' in it hasn't settled, or even solidified.
