A GOOD welder will have no problems. Aluminum is aluminum, in this case.

Jasoutside had it done to his Islander. It's buried in his resto thread somewhere.

Yah, you could check my thread on the weld job. The welder did a nice job but the heat on the alum did warp it some. Not too bad just a little. Once I put the transom back in and bolt it up (working from the center out) it should lay down fine. I think if I had to do it over I'd prolly go one big piece with a bunch of 5200 notch trowled and then stainless steel bolts. One of the Starcraft brothern went that route. Who was it??

Thanks for the info jasoutside. I did check out your resto and saw the weld job. Maybe i will just 5200 the sheet al in there, i could jb weld the perimeter of it and then thru-bolt the heck out of it. That would save me a few hundred anyways. Anyone else see any problems with this ?????

I like it. I don't see a problem.

Thanks, well i'm gonna go for it. Probably take a couple weeks to get to it, with work these days. i'll post pictures of the progress
