Howdy!
Just checking on your progress. How's it going out in God's country? Us bass boat guys gotta stick together! I'm making a little progress, now that I got my stringer measuring problem solved.

Looks like you're doing everything right and being thorough.

When you're done you'll have reverse engineered the boat and built it better than new.

Thanks for the update. General question about the hull: With it sitting on the trailer and you working inside, do you notice any flexing?

Were you able to remove your stringers whole so that you could make templates from them?

These are some of the things i've been worrying about.

Looking like you're making progress WTR. Soon you'll be building rather than destroying and it's a lot more fun. Good luck...

I do notice flexing, but I try to keep my weight in the middle of the boat while im working, since that it where it is supported best by the bunkers on the trailer.

I was not able to remove my stringers hole, not even close. Under the main deck was so rotted I just pulled bits and pieces out by hand, the parts that where in tact I had to use a chisel and chip out a little at a time. To help though, is take lots of measurements before I cut out, and when I cut them out I only removed the top piece of fiberglass holding them in so I can use that as a reference when I start building new ones.

Thanks for the update my Fellow Texan! I didn't make a template for my stringers, but wish I would have. I lost a week jackin' around trying to get the new stringers right. I finally got it. Keep us updated!

WOW! That's a TON of work, but you are doing GREAT! Had to respond so I'll be notified of updates. I LOVE projects like this... HATE the initial tear-down and cleanup, but going back together should be inspiring! You'll have a hell of a boat when you are finished. Can't wait to see!

dry fitting some transom spports that I reengineered to evenly distribute the power of the motor into the hull of the boat.

Found out im gonna need some 1/2" ply or 1" ply to create a 2" transom...

Are your braces going to tie into stringers?

no they wont, but neither did the orginal supports you can see in older pics before I cut them out. The main change I made was that top horizontal brace that goes all the way across the back. Before it was designed as 3 sepperate pieces. I made it one solid piece that will all glue to in place and to the face of the transom. Im making stringers tonight. ill update pics again soon.

Could the braces be made to fit up with the stringer? Seems like a good way to transfer or distribute the torque of the motor evenly. I like the solid one piece transom brace. Looks like it will tie in nicely.

Re: 84' Stratos resurrection***PICS***

just finished my transom cut out, 4- 1/2" pieces to make a 2" transom. Im gonna use Pl premium to adhere all 4 pcs but I dont know how Im gonna hold all together, without clamps or screws, while it cures. I think I may just use screws. Any other advice is appreciated.

Also how would I splice stringers? what methods and/or hardware is acceptable?

Will update with pics tonight.

Hey WTR

Just use screws. You're gunna use glass and resin and peanut butter in the end so you can remove the screws and fill up the holes and only YOU will know they are there so don't worry about it..

PS Make a template of your transom out of 1/4 inch hard board, then glue up a rectangle for your transom. When it drys Use the template to trace the transom on the rectangle, use a jig saw to rough cut it then get a router with a pattern bit to finish cut it out. VOILA' Perfect transom!!!!!

I'm just sayin...:D

I used this method to hold the 4 pcs together while I drilled the pilot holes for the screws. Kept everything straight till I could screw them down.

45744_1493832778105_1002607648_31473595_1058819_n.jpg

Then I unscrewed and applied PL Premium adhesive in between each layer.
FYI - I used an entire tube, looks like im gonna need a lot more for future adhereing

Troweled it for even coverage of the adhesive.

40052_1493832538099_1002607648_31473593_6406176_n.jpg

and then screwed back together and parked my truck on top....update in the morning, and ill continue to let the adhesive cure for about a week. In the meantime Ill have to fisnish cutting a few more stringer pieces...
