So i wanted to learn the exhaust system on my '72 1150 to make sure everything was operating properly. I've learned the parts that make up the system and my question is this: The exhaust exstension tube located in the driveshaft housing, it connects the upper exhaust plate under the powerhead to the lower unit...how important is it to have a sealed system from top to bottom?? Of all the posts i've read about changing the impellor, lower unit removal and such, i've never heard anything about the exhaust gasket and such. And what if it does leak inside the housing or somewhere else...good, bad..?? Thanks!

I've read on this forum that any leaking exhaust is cooled by water and exits out the holes in the housing just below the engine cowling. Blue
