Balance tube

100hp 1979 chrysler
My balance tube is old and has a little crack near the top. Could this affect performance? Seems to run fine but who doesn't want their motor tiptop!

i would replace it you dont want a lean airfuel mixture on the motor

Here is a picture. Any ideas where to buy one? It looks like its a 7/16" fuel hose, maybe a 1/2". Is fuel hose what I want to use?

I don't know what a balance tube does, but if it carries exhaust or fuel fumes, then fuel line hose would work.
If you can't find fuel line hose that big, then step up to hydrolic line.
A autoparts store like CarQuest would have it. Buy it by the foot.

I believe a balance tube equilizes the pressure between the carburators, it prevents a vacuum. If I am wrong please let me know.

If you think the tube is loose. or leaking.
Then I would replace it. Only a few bucks. Check Autozone, Advance Auto, Checker Napa Car quest.

Places like that sell hose by the foot.

Any oil resistant 3/8 ID hose will do. Thin wall is best because there is not a lot of room at the manifolds where it plugs in.

The balance tube equalizes pressure or airflow between the carbs primarily at idle so all four pistons get the same amount of air/fuel. It improves the idle. If it is leaking, you will get lean running and erratic performance.

The balance system is built into the manifold on three cylinder engines. It is the series of square tubes just behind the carbs.
