1999 Yamaha 40hp Locked up??

My neighbor has a 1999 Yamaha 2 stroke 40 hp, He took out on the lake for the first time this year he got a few miles and it quit.

I tried to pull by hand (rope under the cover) Locked solid. I pulled the plugs and they looked good thought maybe vapor lock, But with the plugs out still cannot spin.

Any suggestions???

worth tearing apart and rebulding?? OR just time to repower??

drop the lower unit to see if that is locked up and not the motor.
Never hurts to open up and see what is wrong

Will the drive lock crankshaft?

One of their idiot friends "winterized" it So I have no idea what was done.

I would take it to a good boat repair shop and get a diagnos..I have a 97 40hp and it runs great..

Did your gas have the proper amount of outboard oil in it? Almost sounds like motor seized up due to lack of lubrication. Try to turn motor over with a wrench on big flywheel nut?

The drive shaft out of the motor goes directly to the lower unit and if that is locked up where it will not turn it will lock up the power head. That is why I said to pull it

Ok I will drop the drive on Friday when I get doen there and check it. Next step would be to start tearing it apart. I will keep you guys posted.
