quick water pump problem

i posted pics a while back of my 84 8hp that i was rebuilding. well i finally put it all back together today and it runs like a charm. only thing wrong is its not pumping any water. it has exhaust smoke coming out of the pee hole.

im gonna drop the foot again and make sure everything is lined up.

any other thoughts or suggestions?

Sounds like the water tube may not be in the water pump grommet. Did you replace the upper grommet on the water tube?

Did you put the keeper in place? Put the spines backwards? Not get the water tube lined up? Pull it again and recheck those things. Good luck, Mettyfish

thanks guys. i did a quick search before i went back out to mess with it and read that it needs water half way up the back. i previously had it in a 5 gal bucket and switched to a trash can and she's spittin pretty now. so thank heavens for that.

and thanks for the help. that motor is totally rebuilt so hopefully ill be good for a few years.

A few years? HAH!! Treat that baby right and she'll last another 50 years OMC does and did build a good rig.
