What is this spring for?

I am putting my 1973 Evinrude 65 h.p. back together. I can't remember where this carb spring goes. I have the factory service manual and it doesn't show this spring. I am sure it goes on the center carb and maybe it has to do with the electric choke? Enclosed are the pics.

100% positive on the year. My manual says there is a spring behind the choke plunger, but there was none. It also doesn't show this spring on the carb parts diagram in the manual.

I see the spring. Does that mean that it sits on the throttle linkage that attaches all three carbs together? Should have taken a picture BEFORE I took it apart!

Re: What is this spring for?

Still can't seem to find the way it fits on the middle carb. Frustrating. Can anyone explain its purpose? It may help me to position it if I can figure out what the tip is pressing against. Does it go on the plastic holder that the throttle linkage(for all three carbs) attaches to? Does it go on before the linkage? If I had just taken the picture............

It goes behind throttle arm over plastic clip.

The only spring I could see on his that is missing on yours:

Could you give a couple of tips how you got it on?

I just replaced my carbs and I'm stuck on this spring. Excellent pictures but I still can't figure this out.

The circle of the spring needs to go over the plastic retainer for the throttle rods. It goes on BEFORE you snap the linkage on. The "U" shaped hook will face outward and hook at the bottom of the throttle linkage plate. The pointy tip of the spring will face towards the front of the motor and not touch a thing unless you advance the throttle quite a lot. Hope this helps. It was a real bugger until the last pics. Now, I will remember it forever!
