Reverse issues

I have a 84 chapparal with a merc i/o 120. I put it in forward no problem goes and drives. Put it in reverse and it sounds like stuff is shattered to pieces or just barely catching a spline or something but it wont move.... Is the transmission bad or is something not adjusted in the trans? The unit was "supposedly" rebuilt a few months before I bought it. Thanks.

Ayuh,... Sounds like the Lower shift cable is gettin' Bad...
You can try adjusting it, but most likely you'll fix it by Replacing it...
