Spark plugs with no electrodes?

I have a 1985 Johnson 150 hp VRO outboard. I just bought the boat/motor so I went to do a compression test before completely finalizing the sale, and I noticed that the plugs don't have the normal side or center electrodes like I'm used to seeing on car/mortorcycle, and previous boat spark plugs. Is this correct, or is there a big problem here? I'll have pictures up tonight if I need to so you can see what I'm talking about. If this is normal, how do these plugs work as there doesn't appear to be a gap for the spark to travel along?

those are surface gap plgs, common in that vintage motor.

champion UL77V or L16V is what is recommended.

The plugs that you have are "surface gap" plugs. The spark goes from the electrode to the side of the plug.

The current BRP recommendation for your specific crossflow engine is for Champion UL77V or L16V; both are surface gap plugs.

Best plugs in my opinion with no electrodes.

When trolling with normal plugs they gunk up and motor runs rough. And with theses I can troll all day and bring my RPM all the way down.
