See the pics.. Some of the wood is firm, and some crumbled like a sand castle.

This is out of a 1981 Starcraft

One of the inconvenient truths about wood cored transoms is that if water gets in there, eventually the transon core rots and has to be replaced, which is not a simple job. Good luck.

Not that bad compared to mine, it was black pulp.

Mine looked pretty good from the inside but against the alum it was mush.

atleast you can use the old as a template. mine was orginally 3 pcs came out in 10 pcs. when i redid mine i used 3/4 exterior ply doubled up. its going back in as 1 big piece

I took most of mine out with a shop vac :D! It takes some doing, but its really not a hard thing to replace....just takes some persistence. Good luck with it!

The guys with totally rotten, crumbling transoms are the lucky ones. We fellows who had mostly good wood with a little rot have all the trouble. Had to remove 90% of mine with a hammer and chisel. Not fun. Keep at it, the pain subsides soon. I was there just a couple of weeks ago.
