Water fuel separator?

Hi ya'll,
Just got off the lake was a beatiful day.
I have a 93 force 120
ran perfect last two times out then I installed a water separator
and it now will stall when i shift into gear. once I get it going it runs great.
I know it's the separator not allowing enough fuel.
? is can I just get another separator that will allow more GPH.
The one I have is a Moeller filter # 33323-10 can't find the GPH on it.
I wonder if this is a ten micron
maybe a 21 micron would work

Any suggestions.
Thanks a lot.

Re: Water fuel separator?

I installed one on my 1988 125 HP motor. Looking at that filter, based on what I've seen (just my opinion, I'm not an expert) and research when I was looking for mine, I would think that it should flow enough gas for your motor.

Maybe the current filter is plugged up? Try temporarily by-passing the filter by using a hose coupler with the existing fuel lines.

Re: Water fuel separator?

Thanks,
So far everything i have read says 10 micron is for newer fuel injected motors and the 21 micron should be used with carb models. so i'm gonna get a 21 and see if that does the trick:D

Re: Water fuel separator?

water separating fuel filter will not cause your motor to stall when shifting, due to "not allowing enough fuel".

The fuel pump fills the carb bowls, and that fuel is in there to be used even if the pump is not working or the fuel line is shut off.

Your problem is with idle speed, carb adjustments, low compression, etc.

What is your idle speed rpm, in forward gear?

I will check RPM tomorrow at the lake. What should it be in foward gear?
The only reason I assumed fuel separator is this never happened until It was installed. when I bypass internal tank with an external tank no problems with stalling when shifting into gear.
Thanks for the replies.

Re: Water fuel separator?

Took it out today.
The idle speed was right at 7 to 800 RPM's when I shift into gear.
Seems like that is about right per the manual.

800 is ok, 900 may be better.

That would be 800 rpm when the motor is in gear, correct?

ya, thats right,
800 when i shift into gear.
I will try to bump it up to 900.
Thanks.
Do I need to adjust the idle mixture on both carbs?
Is it just a small turn in on each?
Never really messed with these carbs

Re: Water fuel separator?

No, you don't want to adjust the mixture screws, just the throttle stop on the tower, it will adjust the idle without messing up the fuel/air mixture.
