To start off, GET BENT BONDO!!!!

Now I have an 89 1950. NOT ONE PROBLEM!!! What you do need to realize is it is a boat. Boats do cost money. I would advise you to check out ANY boat VERY carefully before you buy it. Just because its a Bayliner doesnt mean it's crap. Bayliner does make nice boats. And you get the most bang for your buck. Around here in the paper, I have seen 19ft Bays between 88-91 for almost 4 grand. The only thing I do not like about it is the same with ANY BOAT OF ITS CLASS!
Those side windows are to long for me. I like to fish out of my boat too and with myself and 3 boys, four lines in the water is max. Two in back and two on the bow. If you get the 135hp. My family of 5 can pull a water skiier with no prob.

I repeat though. ANY boat can cause you problems. I really dont know why these people feel the need to pick on Bayliner when they are still proudcing boats.

Once again, Bondo has skipped his Bayliner anger mngmt. class. He lies in wait on his pc all day long just waiting for a Bayliner post to pounce on. LOL! ;) Check out this boat thoroughly. So many Bays are bought by first time boaters and are poorly maintained. I have a 1950 and love it. Never had a problem with it. It is the stripped down F150 version of boats. Contrary to popular belief, it has glass stringers, stainless hardware, no rot, heavy marine vinyl, merc power, will pull a skier, floats , starts every time... etc. But I am anal about maintaining it. It is NOT a big water boat. I take mine to Lk. Erie and hug the islands when it gets above two feet. 4 grand sounds fair if the boat is in good shape. Hell, I must have seen 7 or 8 1950's this wknd at the lake, one was towing a large Chap back to the marina(honestly). Bout like an Escort towing a Navigator :D Goeb

The reason Bayliners get such a bad rap is that there are more of them than almost any other boat, and the more of something there is, the more you will hear about what is wrong with it. Older Bayliner hulls were layed up a little chintsy, usually thinner, with less layers of glass. The fit and finish wasn't up to par, but they have always been really good looking boats. They tended to not be as waterproofed, leading to rot. Lastly, most people have the "Its a boat, it can get wet" mentality, and leave it out in the rain and snow, which will kill a boat quicker than anything else. Go ahead and get the boat if it is sound, and take really good care of it, and you will be happy. I personally have never seen an older Bayliner that didn't have rotted floors or other issues, and there are gobs of those things on my lake. Good luck...

ok, ok. I also have one of "those". A 1985 cuddy. After reading the horror stories I TORE UP the floor expecting to find nothing but worms...but all was fine. The 3.0, with a 15 pitch, 4 blade comprop pulls up a 240lb rookie skier with 500lb of people in the boat. Maybe the boat gods have been good to me. Pd. 4000 for it 4-5 yrs ago, for reference.

Well dkhntr,
I'm Truly Sorry you don't like My Opinion......
I've Worked on more than a few Bilgeliners......
As JasonJ states, Older Bayliner hulls were layed up a little chintsy, usually thinner, with less layers of glass. The fit and finish wasn't up to par, but they have always been really good looking boat. I liken them to a 9/16s end-wrench from China..... It Looks like a wrench, It Feels like a wrench,
But, When you Need a wrench, You find out it's JUNK.....
Bilgeliners Look like boats.......
They are mass-produced, with the Absolute Minimiun amount of materials, of the Absolute Lowest Quality, to give the Illusion of a Quality Boat.....

They've built Enough of these boats that there Has to be a Few Still in Good Shape.... I'm Glad you have one of them...Obviously, the other 10 or 12 are Also owned by people on this board....

That Doesn't Change the Fact that Bilgeliners are the "Yugo" of the Boating World.......

Welcome to the forum Kboone, and now back to the original thread. Bayliner boats are as good as any other out there. You will find some boaters who think that they are experts in all things Bayliner and are above owning one of them ( not a big enough status symbol ). I have been on the water for many years and see more Bayliners towing other boats in than the other way around. I own a 1986 2452 and other than the usual maint and minor repairs that we all have it is a well built solid boat. Check out the 1950 if you like the boat, it is in what you feel is reasonable cond for its age and price go for it. Good luck and safe boating
