My boat came with a non-running 90 force 150, there is an 89 mercury 150 for sale around here for $800. I am almost positive the force only needs the carbs redone, which I have the kits on the way. I you know guys do not like the force motors, but would it be worth it to buy the other motor and swap out? and if so, will everything on my boat(90 arriva) swap over(power tilt and trim)? Also would it be that hard of a swap or would I have to buy a whole bunch of stuff to make it compatible?
thanks for any help

not sure what is compatible or what it costs, but trash the force and get the mercury or you will regret it on down the road. i had a 89 mercury 150 black max and it was a sweet running motor.

The Force is a nice running engine, but it is small bore-3.3125 usually with small WB carbs. The 150s after 1992 were big bore -3.375- with bigger TC carbs and ran better. If it is a simple repair to get the Force running, leave it on the boat and use it.

However, The Merc will run rings around it, so if you need to invest a lot of money, then the Merc 150 is the way to go.

Almost nothing will swap. Even though 1990s Forces were manufactured by Mercury, they are a completely different engine, even requiring different control cables.

I Don't hold any issues with Force. They were what they were. They have not been produced for quite some time now.

There is no comparison between a Force 150 (5-cyl.) and Merc. V-6. The Force was a very weak 150, at best. The Merc. was a strong 150 at least.

If you can get the force running for short order do that, then sell it and put the money towards the merc.

I did a quick search, so I probably missed it, but what all would I need? I haven't decided on what I am going to do, just kind of checking it out to see if it worth the trouble...
thanks for any help
