I need to put bunks on a trailer to haul an aluminum jon boat.
What kind of wood should I use? Is presure treated wood still
bad for aluminum? Does the carpet insulate the aluminum from
th p/t wood?
Thanks for any help.

non pressure treated, just paint them first if you want to, it will help. quality staples too, ss or comparable. they are expensive but worth it. also, i glued the carpet to my boards with aerosol adhesive. keeps it in place better especially when stapling/folding the carpet over.

Re: Trailer bunks

If this is a flat-bottom boat and you want a good longterm solution, try welding angle-iron (or the aluminum equivalent) onto the trailer instead of bunks. Then, bolt PVC boards to the angle-iron. The angle-iron provides the support needed, while the PVC boards provide protection for the hull and make it easy to launch/load the boat. You can also use composite lumber in lieu of the PVC, but it will get moldy over time.

Thanks for the replies!
Has anybody else tried the PVC planks?
My Smoker craft 16' flat bottom jon has rivets, would it be ok
to try the PVC planks?
Thank you
