Stupid question

I have a 1985 johnson with 4 individual carbs. The cheapest I could find a carb kit was @ 15.00.Is this price for all the carbs or am I paying over 60 dollars to rebuild my carbs?

Just asking because it seems pricey and I don't want to get more than I need.

Thanks for the help
Shawn

Re: Stupid question

That's per carb and yes $60 to rebuild your "carbs", that must not be OMC either, I did my 9.9, OMC carb kit was $34+tax for one carb.

Hang on guys.....he has a 1985 Johnson 140 V4. Does he really need 4 kits? I'm thinking 2.

Re: Stupid question

This is the type of motor that has 4 plastic carb bodies bolted to an aluminum manifold that contains the butterfly valves. Each of the plastic bodies has its own seperate float bowl.I think the 1984 and earlier models have the two double barrel carbs. Is that what you are refering to?

Re: Stupid question

According to Shop2.evinrude.com site it's only got 2 carbs so therefor 2 kits. But is that 2 carbs per head, i'm thinking it has 4 carbs.

Good catch ezmobee, I just go by what people say in their post, if it's got 4 carbs it needs 4 kits, he may have the wrong make and model of motor posted.

Me crystal ball is a little cloudy lately. :)

Yes. Carry on then

Just didn't want you to buy 2 extra kits if you didn't have to. All the V4s I've laid eyes on had the 2 double carbs.

Re: Stupid question

Just called my dealer, you need 1 kit per carb so 4 kits.

Re: Stupid question

The 1985 140 is a looper; 1977 through 1984 140 engines are crossflow.

Re: Stupid question

Did you read the description, 80 hrs to get it that far, cleaning connections and rebuilding 4 carbs plus gaskets, I hope it doesn't take you 8 hrs a day for 2 weeks straight to do the same job :) At a shop rate of $90/hour @ 80 hrs that's $7200 + parts LOL

Re: Stupid question

No I didn't read the description. That is some funny stuff! On this model of motor you don't even have to mess with the linkage to rebuild the carbs.Actually it is a pretty cool setup.I will be sure to take my time though to make sure it is done right.
