My 8 HP Merc 4 Stroke has a slight problem. When the tiller is in neutral, you cannot pull the starter cord.If I place the tiller in the Reverse position all is well and you can start the engine. Not exactly a perfect scenerio_Obviously it's just an adjustment that's needed. Can anybody help me out with how this is done before I charge into it like a bull in a china shop?

I guess you mean the shift lever. The tiller is the handle you use for steering. Agree with your diagnosis, but now familiar with the engine.

This motor doesn't have a separate shift lever. You shift with the throttle on the end of the tiller so everything is sort if intertwined.

Can't help, sorry, but I think you are correct with the adjustment guess.
