I am looking at a very nice 1977 SRV220 cuddy with a 188hp mercruiser. The boat is in very nice shape and was always stored inside and basically needs nothing. The outdrive was rebuilt in 99' and the owner claims hes only used it 10 times since he bought it in 99'. The owner is a gentlemen who used it for salmon fishing on lake michigan so most of the recent hours would be from trolling. My first question is would this boat be under powered with the 188hp? I know the newer 302 fords (up to 98') didnt have a lot of hp but had a lot of torque. I asked the owner how the boat ran with the motor and he just said it ran great. My other question is there anything I should look for with these older sea rays structurally like stringer and floor rot? I've heard that the old sea rays are tanks but some have weak transoms.

I would highly recommend a survey to be sure of what you're getting. It could save you lots of time and money in the long run. Unless it's just dirt cheap and you're interested in a project. I've always liked the old Sea Ray lines...

hey there, i have a 73 searay SRV 220 OV...with the merc888 setup....
it does seem a little underpowered right now, but upgrading it to a 4bbl carb/intake setup...should get an extra 20 ponies.

this think is build like a tank....for a 22'...i think she weighs 3800 lbs. dry.

That's a little underpowered maybe. It all depends on how you boat...
Changing the 2v carb to a 4v will help the top end a bit but it won't increase the torque much... if any.
