I have a 79 15hp Johnson 2 stroke motor. Its been using XD30 oil. Can I switch to XD50 or even XD100 with no issues? My thinking is if I use XD50 the performance and protecting of the engine will increase.

You can use either one. Mix at 50:1, as you usually do. Both oils will offer better protection than the XD-30, but both are more expensive. I run either XD-50 or Pennzoil semi-synthetic in my 1972 Johnson 65hp motor, with good result.

BTW, most OMC/BRP dealers will sell you the oil in bulk, at a price that is less than buying it off of the shelf. Just show up with a clean and suitable container (I bought a new 3 gallon gas can) and they will fill it from a 55 gallon drum.

XD100 wo0uld be a total waste of money for your motor. It's intended for the E-Tec DI motors and costs $30+ per gal. I use it in my E-Tecs BC it's the best oil for those motors and it is used at a much lower rate in E-Tecs only than TCW3 oils in other motors, but the higher ratios don't apply to other motors. My motors average ~ 85:1 oil use.

I used XD 50 in my 1988 40 hp Evinrude last spring, and this stuff stinks to high heaven. I troll alot. Switched back to XD 30. Dealer took the oil back in trade for a gal jug of XD 30.
