im going to use 4 gaskets total. one above the block off plate and one below for each riser. the gasket material is composition just like the manifold gasket has that asbestos look to it.

cool thanks, i am right in the middle of the same project, my riser gasket went bad and leaked raw water from riser into manifold, and into the 3,5,and 7 cylinders, rusted the rings to the walls and locked the motor. and you wonder why i went through 2 ring gears trying to get the starter right

previously i used 1. after searching around seems like that gasket is prone to causing that same problem. after more research found that having the block off plate and the 2 gasket on each riser will give it more "crush area"JJJ and help prevent gasket failure.
