End of the season? Wha'cha'mean end of seanon? That lake never gets hard :D I don't "boat" anymore, but remember water skiing in November years ago.

I'm actually looking forward to the cooler temps, better fishing...

well, end of family fun season. I have a bow cover, and keep trying to talk my buddy into starting to fish with me thru november maybe. Im not big on it, but if its on my boat its gotta be fun lol. i just get nervous with boating close to winter time, with freezing temps and all that. how do all the fishermen put in and take out their boats all winter without worrying about cracking the block? do they winterize after every trip? sorry, just had to ask. been thinking about it for a while now.

ive been watching when we go, all the fishermen are on the west side of the lake it seems.....anywhere around the grassy shore between the marina and stewarts it seems. I'll have to try up there. not to turn into a fishing thread, but what were you using for bait?

you can take the 15 to lake mead blvd in north vegas, then head east til it dead ends into northshore, then take a left and head north past calville and into echo bay. thats how i go. Like i said before, the road is tore up for one section as they are re-doing it. even the sections that are not tore up are kinda rough for the last 15 miles or so. basically, not much worse than it has been for the past few years.

Re: the last 2 day Lake Mead trip this year.....

thanks red; thats what i wanted to know and didnt get out of your other post. thought maybe they might have tied in the construction from this spring and got the north shore road finished all the way. so still just the bridges and working on them as you posted.

it easy to drain your motor and get into a pattern each time you pull out
i'm sure your on top of this, and there must be some differences from omc to mercs. quick over view of ours
you should have a pet **** on each corner of exhaust manifold, 2 block drains under the exhaust mid way on each side of the block. these are what mercruiser uses and omc should be close.
i allso take the lower water pump hose loose (the one on motor) and the, charge pump, raw water pump hose from the transom.

any how some nice days to boat out there in the winter. quiet and not much traffic. i crossed the virgin basin last feb and didnt see another boat or cut a wake. it was glassed off and a realy nice ride.

chears on this week end

Yep as Jax said, drain the block/manifolds and you're good to go. I use my I/O all year long and never winterize. I'll perform all the winterization maintenance during the year, but there's no reason to "mothball" the engine if it's not going to be sitting for months on end.

honestly, i have always made the last trip of the season in august or september, and parked it with the drive down so the water drains out. Then by the time it freezes, the water is all evaporated from sitting for a few months. Going to either use it this winter or winterize it though, im not sure. Im still kindof leary on trying to drain all the water from the block each time i bring it home. what if i dont get it all? im kinda paranoid about stuff like that i guess.

so what kind of bait do you guys use when you fish up there? frozen anchovies?

The water in the block won't evaporate since it's sealed up, no place to go unless you drain it. It doesn't get cold enough the freeze and crack a block too often here in the desert, but it does happed. I didn't know to drain the block for years and never had a problem, guess I might have dodged a bullet, but I'm draining from now on in the cold months. On my old boat I had to replace the petcocks as they were stuck and wouldn't open. A trip to Lowes, $10 and an hour later they were all replaced, easy fix.

Chovies or sardines are good for bait-n-wait, you can also jig for fish if you are marking them deep, or topwater plugs if they are chasing shad. When I fished Mead a lot (night) I'd anchor in a deep cove or dropoff, throw out some chum and rig up a couple bait rods. During the day I'd be throwing an assortment of small "shad like"lures, RattleTrap, KastMaster, little shad swim baits. There's also largemouth and smallies in the overton arm, but I never really fished for them.

Run a search on "striper" and my username as I posted up a striper 101 fishing thing a while back. A few guys posted back that it worked for them.

I never drain at home, but I was worried storing in Havasu last year. Very rarely got below freezing though, and then just an hour or so a day. Most guys don't drain there at all. Run them on the muffs once in a while and that's pretty much it . . .

you have been incredibly lucky.
last dec when i pulled out and left boat in dry storage at las veags bay they told me not to worry about draining, so i didn't.
i started worrying at saint gorge on the way home and stop till i got back in feb.
i will never do that again. i can drain every thing in less than 5 minutes and NO WORRY. someone said before-- air doesn't freeze

We were using shad looking lures...We saw some birds flying in a circle low over the water and the stripers were boiling on the shad...My lure was diving down around 6 feet...There was a big herd of Mountain sheep right near the launch ramp..Road was fine, just bumpy near the bridge..I was at willow on Tuesday but no luck on the fish..Had a nice ride up close to the Dam and back down to the Monkey Hole...Back in Cali till Oct..

ohh man, was it a great trip. perfect weather, glass for 2 days. We had a blast, everyone had a great, safe time. Did some tubing, lots of swimming, caught a catfish :D. Spent both days up in Glory Hole (its official, the floating porta potty said glory hole on the side just to bring back a previous thread that we were talking about).

Hey fellows..I was thinking of going out to Mojave the first or second week of October, as I will be in Laughlin that weekend. Do you guys think the weather will stll be permitting swimming and laying out in the sun? or just hanging around the casinos? I normally don't swim in October anymore cuz I know it starts cooling down. What do you guys think? :D

Re: the last 2 day Lake Mead trip this year.....

We camped at Mohave for 3-4 days mid-October and the weather was perfect, low 90's during the day. The water was good for swimming, but we were tucked up in a cove and the water is a bit warmer than on the main lake. It wasn't "bathwater" warm like in the middle of summer, but we weren't freezing our butts off either.
