Still not a confirmation as your buddy's boat's speedo could be off too . . .

can you borrow a hand held GPS or even some phones have a GPS. And why are you putting the boat i n the shop.

I am guessing to fix the speedo ^^^^^

Dee, slow down a sec as these things are notoriously inaccurate and yours could be the good one . . .

I wouldn't waste money on a new speedometer unless it is a GPS.

It is in the shop because they didn't fix the speedo the first time, and im not paying for it also i need a spare rim and tire for the trailer. I understand that the speedo probably wont ever be accurate but I would like it to be just a little more than it is now, for low mph towing. As it sits now i reads nothing at low mphs. The mechanic said it probably has a little kink in the line, should know something today.

You will likely need a gps for accurate low speed towing, my speedo won't read below 15 mph, and it only reads about 15 when I'm actually going 22, which is wake board speed for my girls. Between 30 and 50 it's pretty close, close enough for slalom skiing which is around 32 for me.
