I just bought a 26' Stamas with twin 1986 Mercruiser 4cyl 190hp 224ci. Is this the famed 3.7L 470,, and is this 190hp infact a ford motor made with the head of a ford 460?? The motors have 4bl carbs. I have been told by some that it is a GM, and by others it is a Ford,, i have never gotten bad advice form this site, so I decided to ask yall. I am not super excited about these motors, but I have wanted a stamas for years, so I am going to make the best of it.

Yes, it's a 470, just a newer model.

NO, it is not a Ford motor. It's a Mercruiser designed and manufactured aluminum block with a Ford Head.

I have been told by some that it is a GM, and by others it is a Ford,,

I wouldn't listen to either in the future.

Go up to the Adults only sticky at the top of the forum. There are downloads for the OEM manual for your engines. You need #8

I have herd that there are some modifications that can be done to these motors to make them last longer,, What do I need to do to get the most out of them.. They both have around 500hrs, and seem to run ok.
