Re: Tach on 1992 evinrude 88 spl
Gray wire on tach, app 8 volts with peakreading meter.
I am sorry for butting into this post but,I am trying to understand Tachs, their signals, and how they work. From what I have found out so far is the tach signal is ac voltage from the alternator and it makes a difference as to how many poles the alternator has, making me believe the wave form has something to do with the signal also. Most tachs use the unrectified signal but this one uses a regulated signal.
Could you elaborate on the 8 volts?
At what RPM would you see 8 volts and if it is coming from a voltage regulator is the signal AC or DC?
Is there a ratio of volts to RPM that is standard for most tachs? Or is it the pulses that give the RPM?
