I was just wondering if you had to physically set the gap of the point in the distributor housing or is that what base timing does? I am sorry for asking a stupid question. Thanks for reading.

Re: new points

you are reffering to setting the dwell angle of the points

in order to do this, you will need a dwell meter

timing is the number of degrees, before or after the piston is at top dead center of the cylinder, the crankshaft is

Re: new points

I replaced the points and condenser using a merc tune up kit. So I set it to TDC on the #1 cyl and then I use a dwell meter for that gap in the cap?

Re: new points

Is this something that the dealer should do? Just for the meter sake.

Re: new points

it is something that most people can do on their own, have read some posts about people getting the meter for $30 or so at an auto parts store

kind tough to explain here the steps to do

best bet is to find a friend who knows how to do it or ask someone at the auto parts store when you get the meter
