I am looking into buying my first boat for family cruising, water sports, swimming, etc. I think I have it narrowed down to two options. a new never titled 2007 bayliner 225 with the 5.0 L Alpha Merc and the 2005 Regal 2200 with 72 hours an the 5.0 l fuel injected merc. The Bayliner is about $24,000 after taxes and the Regal is about $26,000 after taxes. It will be used for a family of five(three kids under the age of 8) and friends and family. Looking for input on resale values, quality, and especially performance.

thanks again for all of your input!

Regal is a much nicer and better built boat. I personally would bypass the 07 Bayliner and look into the Regal. The hours are really low for an 05, I would just request the mantainence records and also have it inspected for more reassurance, just my two cents.

Good Luck!:D

Thanks for the response. I was thinking the Regal was the way to go. The salesman said that they have had that boat since last summer. Thanks again for the information.

Assuming the Regal passes inspection, hands down Regal is the better package.

Price seems high for an 05' with 72 hours... if they have had it that long, low ball them.

Check for sale ads via craigs list and boattrader for similar boats.

Thanks everyone for the replies.

Updates:
Bayliner Dealer gave me a price of $22,900 on the 225 that has zero time in the water.

The Dealer on the Regal has dropped the price to $25,000 but will not go any lower.

This being said, 5 years down the road, which boat will sell at a better price?

Thanks again for all of your help.

If the Bayliner is not MPI I would not even waste my time with it. The regal will always be worth a bit more if they are both maintained and cared for in the same way. As they get older though the difference will not be much. But people really like Fuel Injection so that will make it easier to sell.
