I'm just wondering if anyone has been running a hotter thermostat in their 85hp engines. The book says to run a 110 degree but my latest engine seems a little too cold blooded and I'm thinking of upping the operatig temp.

On some of the 1989 models it calls for a 130 degree thermostat, depending on S/N. Not sure why. Might try that.

I thought of that but the shape of the 130 deg is different. I don't know if it will fit in a 1985 head.

I know that there is some confusion when looking at the units on line. My 130 degree thermostat looks exactly like the 110 degree ones. If you look at the picture on line, it shows that the 130 degree unit is shaped differently. Very confusing! Just shows that you can't always go by the pictures. Anyways, I took a chance and that's what I ended up with. I'm pretty sure it's 130 degrees because it has 130 stamped on it.

I'm glad you cleared that up. Now I need to search for the cheapest price on a 130 degee. ;)

Yeah took me a couple of try's. Initially ordered one that was supposed to be the right one for my motor based on year and S/N, and ended up getting a 143 degree unit. That site did not specify what temp. the thermostat was. Found one that did specify temp. and ordered from there and received the correct one.
