Cost of replacement if it is a cracked block (worse case), as quoted by mechnic, is ~$350 for motor and ~$350 for install/labor
I call extreme bullsh*t on that.

Re: Free Boat anyone?

I've had a few older Renken boats, they were all good to me, but all of mine were outboard powered.
They build a good, solid boat back then.

I don't know about the $350 for a new motor though. I just sold a good used Mercruiser 120 for $800, it wasn't listed for a full day when it sold on CL.

I guess that mechanic that gave that price also wasn't planning on doing the work and getting paid for it. Around here, $350 is only a few hours labor at any typical boat shop.

If I bought it and fixed her up, How much could I get for a 1979 renkin?? I don't mind doing the work over the winter, But wouldn't mind a profit! What would it be worth after??

it would be easy to part out for free. all of it would be profit then unless you are charging yourself labor. lower unit alone could bring in at least 300...

The stainless prop and trailer are worth more then the asking price. Wish I lived nearby, be a good parting out project and a hull to the scrap yard.
