Hi, just looking for some expert advice,

I own a 1985 20 hp Johnson outboard. On the back of my prop theres a little gray/silverish cap with a cotter pin through it. Is the shear pin inside this or is it inside the prop?

If someone could post a picture or diagram even that would be great.

No shear pin ... go to BRP's website for complete parts diagrams.

Perfect thanks! So if I take out the cotter pin and unscrew the prop, the shear pin will be visible?

Also is there a site online where I can find what size pin I need?

Thanks again!

Ok so now I'm confused shear pin or no shear pin? If not than what protects the shaft and drive if my prop binds up if theres no pin to shear off?

The hub of your propeller consists of two sections with a rubber grommet between them. If you strike an underwater object, the rubber grommet will slip, protecting the drivetrain.
