Just bought a used toon, 2001 18' with a 50 (2 stroke)merc. I used about 8 gallons of gas to travel 3/4 throttle for 40min, and putted around for 2 hours while crabbing. Is that about normal. Water was choppy and about 800lbs of weight on board.

Re: fuel consumption

Rule of thumb is 10% of HP is gallons per hour for WOT . . . Your usage seems a little high though.

Re: fuel consumption

That seems a little high to me as well. Could it be that you over estimated the 8 gallons?

Re: fuel consumption

Typically a 50 will use about 5gph. @ wot regardless of how fast the boat goes 2 wot.Its impoortant to fine tune your setup for the best speed.Obviously the faster you get from here to there at what ever rpm
the less gasd you will use. From my limited research a typical too will do best at about 9 mph or less.Unfortunatly most folks don't have the patience to run that speed.Incidently a toon will many times do better than a planing hull at those speeds.
