Re: lets have alook at your boats

what i meant was how much did you have to change to get that big motor in that wildcat, if I'm not mistaking it originally had the 470 right?

Hey m8

Would you maybe get on the water quicker if you changed your current power set up with a outboard ...never done it before so don't know how hard it would be to plug up the transom or whether your existing transom will carry an outboard? Hey you might end up patenting a transom plug!

Just a thought.

Cheers.

HE purchased the boat with the 5.7l mercrusier already fitted .

I bought this boat in February. I finally got it on the water last weekend. I think I flooded the motor, but once it started to run, it ran great. Thanks for all the good information on this site.

Oh yeah! this is my 1966 Winner ...... 14'.

For a while I thought it was a Sea Fire, but now I'm back to not knowing (Sea Fire is just such a cool name).

I run it with an 80's Merc. 50, just got a jacking plate last year and 17p prop so we'll see what the new record "speed" is. lol I think this model may have originally been a tiller steer. Thoughts?

Re: lets have alook at your boats

here is my 72 Wildcat i picked up recently...

it has a Chevy 307 V8 & a homemade tower

i had to replace the u-joints (when these things go,, boy do they  ) and the gimbal bell housing/ring... the housing was toast from the u-joints shelling & it had too much slop in the pins for my tastes so i replaced the ring too... (BIG thanks go to Mike's Alphas in Linden Tennessee for the great prices on the bell & ring)

she runs great & throws a decent wake... i might need to remove the trim tabs cuz its kinda washy,, but using a shorter rope works for the time being

love it so far!!!

We have the exact same boat, do you have any more pictures of the boat?
also do you know if the interior and dash is original to the boat?

i dont have any other pictures of it,,, but i could take a few more...

as far as the interior/dash,,, i would guess the dash is all original (with the exception of a gauge or two)... the interior could be original,,, but it might have been re-done at some point judging from its condition... there's no rips at all & its rare that a boat that old with the original interior having no rips in it... (unless the previous owner/s took REALLY good care of it)

the tower works great

i'm not sure what you mean by "making it smoother",,, but i plan to keep the tower "as is"...

i'll probably end up removing the trim tabs,,, adding portable ballast bags,,, & maybe try running a smaller prop to make a more rampy wake... i have a 17"p on it now & it tows ok at around 26-2800rpm,,, but it wants to come off plane whenever somebody does a hard cut... i would guess towing at 3000rpm would help this cuz small-block chevys make more power in that rpm range...

are props 14,1\4 by 23in pitch with 5 ss blades , that puts up a nice wake but we do have 350hp to turn it ,
