Re: PLEASE fire your hosting service. PLEASE...

It may not be the hosting service per se, but could just be a maximum bandwidth purchased. They may be limiting the number connections at one time. As the speeds are okay, but you just aren't allowed to load the page all the time.

At least on my end.

Well, I for one demand a FULL refund of my subscription fees!!!:D

This site offers all of us a place, a little corner of the WORLD to discuss that which we have in common, gives you an extended brotherhood of those that have been through whatever your problem may be, boat related or even NOT boat related..If not for this site, I would be much poorer, and that does not mean just my bank account.

Is there another website out there that compares? I personally do not think so.

Actually, it's not free. It's a commercially operated-for-profit site.

While it is true that there are no subscription fees, we do have to put up with all the banners, which contribute to the site being as slow as it is.

And of course, we have to read all the pitches from folks who insist that we must buy from this commercial site and who frequently pan anyone who mentions other sites or stores.

Convenient, yes to an extent. But by no means free.

And it's still slow.

Wrong, it is free, it cost YOU no money. And anyone with any sense can turn the banners off, and no one is forcing you to read any pitches.
And it's not slow for me, it must be on your end.
Man, what a bunch of whiners. Why don't you guys go elsewhere if it's only convenient to an extent???

Me, I love this site and would never start a thread like this, I am grateful to have this amazing source of info and new friends. A couple slow days doesn't bother me at all.

So iboats is free just like commercial television is free? Yeah... okay. Sure. Whatever. I don't drink that Kool Aid. Tellya what... find another site that DOES have a lower price or faster shipping or better customer service and post a thread about it on here... and see how fast you get flamed or even have the thread locked or deleted.

No, no one is forcing us to read pitches. But then again, those pitches are stuck in the middle of "help me" threads, etc. So you may be trying to learn something new only to have someone say that an iboats rep will be in touch with you soon so that they can sell you something.

And I'm not whining. I'm stating facts. I understand right up front what this site is all about and accept it for what it is. I'm not naive and think that it's only a bunch of friends helping each other. Far from it. It's commercial.

However, if the commercialism gets too heavy or the site gets too slow, then moving along to somewhere else indeed becomes an option.

Jeez. Can't it be a bunch of people helping each other AND a commercial enterprise? Bandwidth costs money. The commercial side of iboats supports this FREE forum. I personally can't think of any "help me" post that got hijacked by someone trying to sell them iboats stuff. And I've never seen a guy get flamed or his post deleted for mentioning another place he bought from.

But it's a free forum, guess you're entitled to your opinion

Certainly. That's exactly what I mean when I say that I accept this site for what it is as a commercial enterprise. It's much like going into a local store. There are helpful, friendly store staff members whose primary purpose is to make a sale. There are also other customers who are helpful and friendly as well. All good. However, just as in a local store, if the two friendly customers start talking about how they got a better deal at a different store, then the store staff members might ask them to discontinue that conversation or go somewhere else. That does happen here.

And I thank you for letting me express my opinion, whether others agree with me or not. After all, that's what the "free" exchange of ideas is all about.

OK, but I find a couple banners, an occasional slowdown, and maybe even a little bit of a proprietary attitude to be a fine tradeoff for the enormous amount of help I and others have gotten from this site. If it wasn't for this forum, I would have spent a lot less time on the water, a lot more time trying to figure stuff out, and a LOT more money paying someone to fix stuff for me.

If the commercialism gets to you too much, good luck finding a "non-commercial" forum that will give you the same level and quality of help as this one.

Have you read the iboats statement in it's shopping area?

Allow me....

iboats.com Low Price Guarantee - Quick and Simple

Buy with Confidence - We Won't Be Beat! If you find a current lower price on an identical, in-stock item from any nationally recognized marine Internet retailer, we will match the price and work hard to make you a satisfied iboats customer for life.

For instructions, see our complete policy.

Right now there are many free shipping offers too.

Most people do not read deep enough due to being impatient. Yes iboats is a business. You certainly do not go to a Chevrolet dealership and hang up Ford sales signs.

iboats has a pretty secure and ethical business practice. While many moderators will close competing links we will not allow bashing of another company either. We delete posts when people bash or complain about xyz company.

When you come right down to it nothing is free. Everyone is entitled to make a dollar.

Life is not free.... no one gets out alive.
