Mercruser Out drive prop question ??

I have a 165 hp mercruser I/O and it has a 21 pitch prop.

Question is can i switch to a 19 pitch ? What would i gain/lose if i do this ?

what rpms are you running at WOT with the 21 pitch

Around 3500

I was told it should be closer to 4500 - 5000

Is this right ?

A 14x19P would be better in this situation. You would probably turn 4000.

165 should handle that 21 unless you have a heavy boat / load.

The 19 will give you a better hole shot and better economy. If you do a lot of tubing or water skiing then a 17 would be better.

Ok ill toss The 19 on then and keep an eye out for a 17

your recomended wot rpms for thet motor is 4200-4600 so try to get in between if you want 165hp and you want the best performance. come back with #'s after u try the 19

Is your Merc the 6 cylinder or 4 cylinder? If its the 6 your WOT RPM's should be 4300.
