Paint on new OMC Manifold Riser mating surfaces??

I just received my new manifold and riser kit from GLM. I noted that all the mating surfaces - manifold to gasket, and manifold/riser - are all painted.

Should these be sanded down to bare metal before installing, or are they good to go as long as they are flat/flush?

Thanks for any advise.

Always a good practice to dress them with a fine flat file to insure the surface is indeed flat.

Thanks. It sounds though as if I do not need to get the surfaces down to bare metal, correct?

I have left it on and scraped it off. Both worked.

Inspect all mating surfaces for damage or imperfections before assembly.

Check the existing or old parts for any remaining gasket material. Often the exhaust gaskets at the head port will crystalize or seem like metal.
