water pump/lower unit question

I have just taken the lower unit off my motor to replace the gaskets on the water pump and the impeller. When I took it off there is allot of nasty grease and gunk on the shaft and inside the unit. Could I take a low pressure washer to these units to clean them?

Sounds like someone got too carried away greasing things. Wipe off the driveshaft. Remove the pump base and cover and clean it up. Rermember the seal for the gearcase is in the pump base so do not get a water into the gearcase, and don't ruin the seal.
