Stator test

Can any one tell me the voltage readings on stator - ignition power supply,
voltage of timer base trigger,
and voltage of power pack to ignition coils?

Respectively speaking, buy a OMC manual all the information will be in it.

I have ignition trouble,
motor stutters at low rpm and gets worse when I throttle,
it accelerates better when I throttle without moving timer base, (I push carburetor lever.
I have double fire, I guess and blamed stator, although charging - ok
ignition power supply o.k.
I had double reading on tacho when switched to 4th position, I'll try at fifth.
I'm trying to get to the trouble to be able to repair the motor for the summer
without replacing fit parts. The tacho switch has 5 positions with relevent numbers. The stator of the v-6 and v-4 older Johnson is the same.
Now I have to check coils and if they are o.k. I'll replace power packs.
I bought the motor with this trouble, and can't figure out what it is, this might be the reason the motor was sold.
It actually doesn't accept the 28 deg. timing. works a little better at 5 deg for a while, has no power and can't be used.

Tacho gives correct readings at position 2 of the switch in the back, I had correct readings on that switch position with my 2 cylinder 50 hp Johnson as well. I would never guess that motors give the same frequency impulses for tacho.

Tach settings are based on the number of poles on the alternator (divided by two) All Johnyrude V's are 12 poles so your tach should be set on 6p (p=pulse) or the equivalent for your model tach (i.e. postion #2 could be for 6p). Two cylinder 50's and 55's from 1971-77 were also 12 poles. I think the 12-pole alternator was more the norm.

If I new this a little earlier I wouldn't suspect the stator.
