I have a 2003 Volvo Penta 5.7 gx in a Wellcraft. Great engine I must say.

Have to change the power steering belt

Darn thing is how to you get the darn thing on. The water pump has a bolted metal bracket that the water cooler is attached to and you cant pass the belt over under around or in..

I have dropped the 2 water lines that run to the water pump but dont want to start taking off random bolts.

The sepintine belt is fine. Its easy to replace...
I just cant find this info on the internet. Too many darn ads when searching.

Anyone have better insight and more experience than I.... should be an easy job, Who knew

Thanks everyone

Nothing there for the Volvo except a link to buy a manual for 90 bucks.
Seems a bit high for a simple question .
Just need to know proper bolts to release

Re: Power Steering Belt Volvo 5.7

OK got it figured out

On the Volvo Pneta 5.7
To change the power steering belt
you have to.

1. Disconnect the 2 water lines that connect to the water pump impeller
2. There is a black bracket that stabalizes the Water pump impeller. It has 2
bolts that hold it into place. Remove the lower bolt then loosen the upper
bolt. This will allow the bracke to move downward.
3. Hold the impeller, it is a spring load, and push it down slightly and move
the bracket downward untill it is free of the housing.
4. You can then slip the belt onto the pully.
5. Once the belt is on the bottom and top pullies, loosen the 2 bolts that hold
the power steering pump in place.
6. Slide the power steering pump inward and slide the belt over the pully on
the power steering pump.
7. Use a hammer or crow bar type device to taught the belt and tighten the
top bolt
8. Then tighten the bottom bolt.
9. Attach the bottom bolt of the black bracket that holds the impeller in place
10. Tighten both bolts on the bracket.
11. Reattach the water lines to the water pump.

You will need a stubby flat head to unscrew the clamps on the hoses due to the firewall limiting space.
You will also need a 2 inch extension and a 12 mm socket and alot of flexability.
You will want to re grease the bracket at the site it contacts the impeller casing to prevent wear.

Just that easy.
