Hey fella's (and gals)

Well if you don't read to boat resto forum, I have to replace the transom in my ole grady. I have already removed the engine and drive. But I was thinking when I go back together I would like to find and ALPHA 1.
I know later year boats with the 470 came with the alpha one. So If I can't find another 470 donor boat with the Alpha What other engines have the gear ratio I need?? And I have to get the whole shoot match right?, Gimbal housing Plate and all?? Will the coupler from the old "I" drive work with the Alpha??

There is not a thing wrong with the I drive I just thought I would upgrade. Worth it?

The 470 according to the manual I have had a ratio of 1.84:1. Thats the same as the 90, 185R,185MR, 470R, 485,488,488R,170MR,190MR and 120.

All but the 90 and 120. The 90 was a totally different (and older) drive. The 120 is a 1.98 ratio, not 1.84.

The V6 gear ratio would be the same, but your problem is going to be in getting the exhaust to line up with the different exhaust pipe. May take a lot of special weldment to get everything to fit.
Keep what you have, it will be a lot easier to deal with.
