i have 1975 40hp johnson. im going to rewire it. my ? is is there a speacial wire i have to get to do this i already know what gauge wire i need. all the insulation on the wires are either craking or look spongy. so i figured i should rewire it. thanks

Marine grade wire would be the best but in my opinion, any good quality multistranded tinned wire will work. Remember that any wiring job is only as good as the connections made on the ends. I personally like to use crimp on heat shrink connectors with low temp solder inside them that melts under a heat gun.
