Question about my new prop ( Thrust Washer!!! )

So I was in the garage working on the boat, and noticed when I rotate the prop by hand, there seems so be a slight resistance as I spin it. It does this during ~ 1/3 of it's rotation. Almost as if it's rubbing or binding slightly on the outdrive hub. Is this bad? I can actually hear some very light grinding noise on the prop as it spins it's rotation. My stock prop was a 14.25 x 21 P"

Thanks for any input.

Re: Question about my new prop

the forward and reverse gears are allways meshed with the drive shaft gear
and when running spin on the prop shaft the clutch dog is splined to the prop shaft
and when you shift it ingages the moving gears thus driving the prop.
When you rotate the prop in neutral the prop shaft rotates within the gears
and the clutch dog rotates with the shaft.I think you feel the slight resistance of the shaft and dog as they rotate. You also may feel the shift yoke that ingages the dog to move it.You might pull the prop
and inspect to see of it rubs on the gearcase anywhere. Not likely.

Re: Question about my new prop

There are tiny particles of aluminum (if that's what the lower unit is made of)
As if rotation of the prop is slightly waring away material. I may be feeling both the resistance of the shaft and dog, and my description. I don't think I over torqued the prop on install... I'll remove and take a look... I feel that if I left it alone, the first run would clear the issue...

Particles of aluminum; I assume you mean outside the gearcase?
Perhaps it needs a spacer (thicker spacer?

Sorry for my lack of terminology. Yes the gearcase. Spacer between the prop and the prop spline shaft correct? Do you know of a spacer kit for this purpose?

Thanks again...

Well I guess this is the culprit!

It stuck on my stock prop after removal!

And never installing or removing any prop, I figured it was attached. :D

So is the the thrust washer I assume?
