can i tow a truck with a 2xd 07 chevy silvardo extended cab work truck? Looking to by this truck in 4 days and need to know if im going to have problems pulling it out the water with it only being 2wd, boat weight about 2500 pounds. The truck also has a tow packing and hook up factory. Please heelllppp. Thanks Dave

You should be fine. 2wd only gets you in trouble on steep wet ramps. But your boat is pretty light. Just keep the ack tires on the ramp and out of the water.

Weve only taken the boat out a few times...but our 21' with trailer, gas, and gear weighs around 5,000 lbs. Our 98 2wd Suburban has had no problems at the ramp so far. Just use a low gear and go slow.
Trucks are more likely to spin out on the wet ramp because they dont have as much weight in the back. With a boat that light you wont have any problem, but if you ever did, just throw a few people in the bed and ease your way out.

That truck will pull just finnnneee.

100% no problem....with the tow pkg, that pickup can tow 5000 lbs++.

I agree. I've only had to use 4wd a couple times at one ramp in 20 years of towing.

As stated earlier, low gear and throttle control you'll be fine.

The only time I use 4 wheel drive is when putting in the river and the ramp has mud on it.

when I still used a 1/2 ton truck I intentionally bought 2wd because you have a higher tow capacity. you should be just fine.

I have a 1999 Chevy Silverado 1/2T with a 5.3L that I tow a 6500 lb boat with all the time even up mountains.

'04 Silverado 2X4 w/ tow pkg. & locking rear.
2500-3000# total (18' Parker w/ fuel and all).
Towing, no problem.
Stopping, that's a issue. Even with new brakes. Sux.
Works,, just not as good as I'd like. Dodges and Fords seem to whoa better IMO.

oK so you think i will be fine? Just worried because im buying the truck pretty much to pull the boat. Im getting alot of mixed reviews ppl who have 4wd say that I will be at the ramp with my tires stuck spinning. The one truck im looking at is the 07 silvardo 2wd with 18k miles on there for 16,500 or a ford f150 4wd for 22,000 so for 5500 less I was hopen the 2wd wont be a problem. Lost need to let them know by tommorw or truck goes back up for sale to someone else

At 2500 lbs, you have nothing to worry about but if I was buying the truck I would want it to have three things factory installed. One is the Trailering Package which includes the wiring, hitch, heavy duty suspension and a nice transmission cooler. The second is the Locking Differential which could make the difference on a steep wet ramp. And third is the 3.73 axle ratio. All three of these things are optional but I wouldn't buy the truck without them.

You can find all the options on the RPO sticker in the glove box.

Z82 - Trailer Package
G80 - Locking Differential
GT4 - 3.73 Axle Ratio

Call the salesman and get him to go out to the truck and look for these codes. If he can't find the GT4, then truck will probably have the 3.23 gears (GU5) and those are OK but the 3.73's are better. See what he's got and get back.

I own 4x4 F150 and rarely use the 4x4 option for pulling the boat. However once or twice a year I have had situations where the 4x4 option became a godsend.

In particular the 4th of July, 2008 at a very busy public boat launch in Sandusky, OH. That day we have returned back around 3 PM and the boat launch parking lot was busy and frantic, filled with normal drama of your average public launch. The concrete was soaked from all the boat trailers and as result the 2x4 trucks and other vehicles had problems pulling out. Thankfully, there was one guy with 4x4 GMC helping stuck vehicles to make it up ramp. Otherwise, we would have been bobbing there for hours waiting for our turn. Also if you live in cold climate or travel in rural areas and farms, the 4x4 will always help. You are likely use that truck more for your daily commute or errants than towing a boat, thus is is important to consider all options besides just towing.

It all depends on the type of boat launches you use. All of my tow vehicles are 4X4s and its needed about 75% of the time. A long time ago when I wasn't fishing as much and just boating with the family, 2X4 worked well, but I did get pulled up the ramp a couple of times.

I've got a Chevy Suburban 1500 that is probably the same engine and frame you're looking at. It's 2WD and I've never had any problems. (Although, I am religious about keeping the back wheels out of the water). If you like the truck, go for it.

I use a 00" 2xd silverado to pull 3500lbs out of some steep ramps in ohio, you should be just fine it should have 10000lb tow capacity. Just pull slow in 1st gear.
