Finding out year and hp

I recently purchased a older (70's?) model johnson tiller handle out board. My problem is the cowl has been painted along with the rest of the motor and all markings are not readable. I did find a little plate on the block that reads "E3592254" How can I find out about this motor. Thanks in advance for any help

serial #, look under the front of the motor, between transom clamps. should be sign of a small plate, see if you can get the paint off.

Ok. Searched the motor over and found nothing resembling a serial number other than the one on the little quarter sized thing on the side of the motor. (posted above) Will attempt to get pictures tomorrow. Need to find out info to get a head gasket but that another topic.

Looks late 1970's early 1980's to me. Do you have any photos with the cowl on. Someone may be able to tell the age by the decals.

The cowl was supposedly changed by the previous owner. The one that is on it has a 20hp decal and a decal saying something about 50th anniversary but was told he changed it, and its a 25hp motor.

The serial number (E3592254) that you gave is most likely from 1972.
